The Madinat al-Zahra project is a community-focused project and has been developed with the involvement, support, and donations of the public. Being one of the biggest projects of MQI, this large-scale development is an investment into the future of our children and for generations to come. Our vision, within the UK has been to establish an effective national organisation working on various levels, primarily focusing on the empowerment of communities through a programme of education and community engagement. Equally, the second phase focused on welfare issues throughout the world, which included poverty, health, and natural disasters.
MQI is has led the way in these areas with a dedicated and concerted policy of engaging with people of various ages from across communities. It has been at the forefront of promoting religious moderation, human rights, women rsquo;s rights, social welfare, and education.
The UK body of Minhaj-ul-Quran International was developed in the mid 1980s and from the onset it had a manifest objective of developing the Muslim community to integrate and play an effective role alongside other communities in Europe.

In 2014, Minhaj-ul-Quran International was recognised for its work over a 30 year period, and was awarded a lsquo;special consultative status rsquo; by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the first Muslim organisation ever to have been awarded with such a status.
